Summary- Energetic information technology professional with a proven record of technical expertise supporting high performance IT organizations. Extensive experience trouble-shooting hardware and software issues on high performance platforms such as SGI and Sun as well as PC and Mac systems. Major server and user level software experience including UNIX OS and server packages, MS Office, numerous compilers and development environments. Script writing and programming experience in a variety of languages. Excellent grasp of computer science and computer systems fundamentals, and able to adapt to unfamiliar systems quickly and easily. Excellent communications and management skills, highly flexible, with broad high performance computing (HPC) systems and large-scale military communications operations experience.
Skills
Operating Systems- Experienced systems administrator of Windows, Mac, and UNIX Systems (IRIX, Linux, Solaris, and Mac OS X). Extensive understanding of and experience in thread management, memory management, and hardware interface code.
Sever Software- Apache, Sendmail, Samba, Windows Active Directory, server level AV software packages, mySQL, PostFix, OpenLDAP, and Exchange Server. Excellent knowledge of socket programming concepts and can quickly apply them to learn additional packages.
Hardware- Diagnose and repair hardware malfunctions down to the component level using hardware and software diagnostic tools on platforms ranging from small to HPC-level computer systems.
Storage Area Networks (SANs)- installed and maintained SAN systems using fiber and copper backbones, Silkworm switches, and the CXFS SAN file system.
Programming and scripting- C, C++, Java, Perl and PHP. Knowledge of design concepts, algorithms and data types, makes new language syntax easy to learn.
Networking- TCP/IP, routing protocols, Ethernet, and Cisco IOS experience. Able to troubleshoot network errors at both the system and network levels. Knowledge of the underlying concepts of protocol design and implementation.
Management- Supervising communications officer for a field artillery battalion during a successful 18 month deployment, including 11 months in a combat theater of operations (Iraq). Managed a team which supported over 700 troops and 150 vehicles in all communications operations. Planned and organized support and deployment of computers, military and civilian radio systems, networking assets, and additional specialty systems.

August 06- July 08, Senior Systems Administrator: Lousiana Immersive Technology Environment (LITE) Center, University of Louisiana, Lafayette, LA
Managing administrator for the LITE Center, a world-class supercomputing and visualization center. Installed and managed supercomputing and visualization systems, networks, and other technology. Responsible for day-to-day technical operations, advise director on major projects and purchases, maintain systems and services including system security and policy decisions, and provide developer and user support as required. Site utilizes multiple hardware and software platforms including SGI, HP, Apple, and Dell hardware running Linux, MacOS and Windows. Site has several High Performance Computing Systems, including a 160 CPU, 4.1 TB shared memory systems and a 384 CPU cluster. Networking equipment includes multiple Cisco switches and routers running IOS.
Nov 05- August 06, System Support Engineer: Silicon Graphics Incorporated, New Orleans, LA
Engineer responsible for the support, installation and repair of all SGI systems within a 200 mile radius of New Orleans, LA. Significant experience with all aspects of SGI hardware and software including both MIPS and Intel based servers, IRIX and Linux, and SAN hardware and software. Troubleshooting and maintenance experience with extremely large systems.
May 04- October 05, Battalion Communication Officer: 1/141 Field Artillery Battalion, 256 Brigade Combat Team, US Army
Primary staff officer for all communications, communications security, and electronic devices for a battalion sized element during its six month pre-deployment and eleven month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Supervisor of a 12-man section in support of a 700-man battalion at the height of operations in a war zone. Acted as primary systems administrator for the battalion’s classified and unclassified networks, and planned and implemented computer and communications policies. Now qualified for Veteran’s Equal Opportunity Act consideration.
Oct 01- Sep 05, Network Administrator II: Tulane University, New Orleans, LA
Primary systems and networks administrator for the Mathematics Department. Administered SGI, Sun, and Macintosh and PC-Type machines. Maintained systems from both an OS and hardware standpoint. Worked extensively with IRIX, Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X, and Windows. Responsible for making purchasing recommendations. Also responsible for maintaining server software and designing and enforcing security protocols.
Sept 99-Oct 01, Technology Manager: Steinmetz and Associates, New Orleans, LA
Managed and administered a heterogeneous Wide Area Network across New Orleans and Atlanta office locations. Systems included Windows, Solaris on PC and Sun hardware, Linux, and SCO UNIX. Responsible for all technology purchasing decisions. Updated and modernized networks in both locations; installed a VPN between the two locations.
May 97–Sept 99, Technical Support Representative: TC Computers, New Orleans, LA
Windows and PC technical support representative. Established the Linux support program and acted as shift leader and 2nd tier technical support.

When not deployed I was a National Guard officer with much of the same area of responsibility as listed above. (Completed Guard obligations and separated from the Army on 14 May 2006)
Education
Loyola University- 1992-1996. Bachelors of Arts awarded in history with a minor in computer science.
Tulane University- 2001-2005. Masers Program in Computer Science. One course and dissertation remains to be completed; degree completion interrupted by military activation and hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
